During this 2.5 day workshop, participants will learn the foundational elements of place-based stewardship education (PBSE) and how to implement a PBSE project with their students.  Each year the subject of the workshop changes but lessons and activities will be provided to support the topic. Teacher participants will explore different place-based education and Great Lakes literacy-focused lessons and be "students" as lessons are modelled at various field locations. Each participant will be able to connect with relevant community partners and receive coaching and time to plan their place-based stewardship education project.

Teachers from the same school who apply in teams will be given greater consideration, particularly teams bringing on new teachers to place-based stewardship education.

State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs) will be available to educators who complete the Summer Institute.
