The Northeast Michigan Great Lake Stewardship Initiative (NEMIGLSI), in collaboration with the Northeast Michigan Council of Governments, MiSTEM Network, and MichiganWorks! Is organizing a hands-on career exposure experience for eighth-grade students. The main objective of the event is to provide students with a firsthand view of real-life job opportunities in in conservation-related careers in northeast Michigan and across the state. We aim to help students make informed choices for their high school elective courses, extracurricular activities, and future careers that are related to the natural resources in their surroundings.

Last year, we held our inaugural EcoCareers Expo in Alpena, MI. The event hosted over 500 students and featured more than 25 exhibitors. We received excellent feedback from students, teachers, and exhibitors in surveys and are excited to host the event again this year on October 21st in Alpena.
The EcoCareers Expo is a hands-on career fair focused on natural resources. Our primary audience is 8th-grade students, as we aim to cultivate their interest in natural resources-related careers before they enter high school. This will help them make informed decisions about elective classes and explore internship opportunities.
