Alcona Community High School students learn about soils from Jack Guy.

The Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative could not be as successful as it is without the dedicated support from all of our partners, including schools, government agencies, non profits, and businesses. They are the people that make these projects happen! Click the link below to see a list of all the partners involved in NEMI GLSI.

Hydroponics at Gaylord High School

2013 Huron Pines AmeriCorps Member Justin Burchett joined Mr. Nate Dionne’s 11th and 12th grade class to learn about the exciting world of hydroponic agriculture, including the environmental benefits over traditional agriculture.
Watershed StudiesSustainable Schools

Students in Mr. Nate Dionne’s class got a chance to learn from 2013 Huron Pines AmeriCorps Member, Otsego Conservation District Education Coordinator, and hydroponics enthusiast, Justin Burchett, about the basics of hydroponic agriculture.  They also learned how hydroponic agriculture has several benefits over traditional agriculture, especially when it comes to decreases in soil erosion, water use, and nutrient application.  Armed with this knowledge students will go forth to produce great harvests from their school hydroponics systems.
