Alcona Community High School students learn about soils from Jack Guy.

The Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative could not be as successful as it is without the dedicated support from all of our partners, including schools, government agencies, non profits, and businesses. They are the people that make these projects happen! Click the link below to see a list of all the partners involved in NEMI GLSI.

Bingham Arts Academy Rain Garden

Bingham teachers and students engage in establishing a schoolyard rain garden, promoting water resource awareness and stewardship education
Sustainable Schools

Bingham youth are exploring natural resources and environmental stewardship through the theme of community gardens and building a schoolyard natural area that serves as an outdoor classroom theme. Bingham students are working with school educators and community partners in creating a schoolyard rain garden with the goal of helping reduce water pollution in the local Thunder Bay River watershed.  They have researched soil quality and which types of plants will thrive outside of their classroom. The students will be featuring plants native to Michigan inviting natural pollinators to visit the garden. Moreover, Bingham teachers and students hope this schoolyard rain garden will serve as a community model for establishing rain gardens, promoting responsible stewardship actions.
