Teacher Workshop: Taking Science Learning Outdoors 

Explore the natural areas of Oakwoods Metropark, then discover ways to build enthusiasm and student interest in science through hands-on, place-based lessons that can take place indoors or out. Lessons and activities will address Birding, Plants and Ecosystems, and Wetlands and Water Quality. This workshop links to lessons and activities available in Metroparks Supplemental Science Learning Boxes that support the Michigan Science Standards and are available to borrow from the Metroparks for free. After the workshop, participants will be fully prepared to borrow the Supplemental Science Learning Boxes and lead their students in outdoor science activities at their school.

Dress to be outdoors and bring a water bottle. Lunch and snacks will be provided. This workshop is open to Science Teachers in Grades K-8 and is made possible free of charge through a generous grant from the Russell Foundation. Participants will receive up to four State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECHs)as well as a $150.00 stipend.

Ages: K-8 grade Teachers ages 21 and up.
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
