Like the outdoors? Want to learn about the natural world and its profound connection to Michigan’s economy and communities? Join Huron Pines as we partner with North Central Michigan College to host a five-session course in Gaylord this July, conveniently scheduled to fit around your busy work week! The series is designed for adults in our community who enjoy hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing, birding and other outdoor recreation activities but lack a technical natural resource background. The course, starting July 9, will consist of indoor classes held on Wednesday evenings at the University Center-Gaylord and Saturday morning field excursions into the woodlands and rivers of Otsego County. Knowledgeable instructors from Huron Pines, along with guest speakers from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will teach about river ecology, wildlife management and human impacts to the environment. This is your chance to explore the issues, learn about Northeast Michigan's unique ecosystems, get your hands dirty and earn a Conservation Champion certificate! The cost to enroll is a bargain at $80 for the whole series, which covers instructor time, a Northern Michigan Issue Guide and other print materials. Visit http://www.huronpines.org/community to sign up, or contact Joy Leisen at (989) 448-2293 ext. 26 or joy@huronpines.org for more information. Hurry—space is limited to 20 participants! Special thanks to the Otsego County Community Foundation for providing funding to make this opportunity possible.
