Lake Huron Place-Based Education Summer Teacher Institute

The Lake Huron Place-Based Education Summer Institute is designed so teachers

  • Make connections to the Great Lakes through Great Lakes Literacy
  • Address and improve their understanding of Michigan’s education expectations through quality hands—on projects
  • Meet the needs of the community and strengthening partnerships between schools and their community

Teachers will be sampling a variety of watershed projects from ROV to water quality testing and eco-tourism.  The Summer Institute is an opportunity for teachers to get their feet wet while learning the foundational elements for successful Place– Based Education and Great Lakes Stewardship.  Northeast Michigan teacher Bekki Heckman will share her experiences and lessons learned with Place– Based Education and Great Lakes Literacy.
