The Place-Based Stewardship Education Summer Institute is designed for formal and informal educators to:

  • Make connections to the Great Lakes through Great Lakes Literacy, stewardship, and hands-on learning experiences
  • Develop/make improvements to a robust place-based stewardship education project  
  • Identify local community needs and strengthen school and community partnerships
  • Explore water topics including water chemistry, biotic water quality, Anishinaabe water teachings, environmental justice education and more!

When: Self-paced asynchronous materials released at the beginning of July via Google Classroom and regional field dates on July 20- 22. If selected, educators will be assigned to ONE of these dates based on their location.

Educator Support: Participants will be eligible to receive a $500 project support stipend.

Funding for this workshop and project stipends are provided by the Center for Great Lakes Literacy, the MiSTEM Network, the H2OQ Program and the Northeast Michigan Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative.
